The second surprise (involving Daisy) came out of left field and frankly I thought it was forced and offered too many complications, putting William and Jason in what is essentially a no-win scenario that is still not entirely resolved at the end of the book. A simple request, one that any other man in his position would kill for, and yet the mere idea of spending time with his greatest temptation, the only woman who makes him lose his composure, proves to be his greatest challenge.
