Having travelled and worked as an audio, TV and video systems engineer for 12 years, I moved into security systems engineering during the 1980s. I began full time teaching at an FE college in 1985 and during the 1990s established training assessment programmes for the NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in intruder, CCTV and fire alarm systems engineering. I left teaching in 1999 to move back into industry where I now work on a freelance basis, developing and/or delivering training courses for the security systems industry, troubleshooting CCTV systems, and writing technical material for manufacturers as well as Security Installer Magazine. I am also involved with the production of interactive (CD-ROM based) learning material for the security sector.

I came across THE BOOK while looking for a new text for my History of Publishing course, and after reading it adopted it and revamped the course. This is a useful book if you are looking for a standard and readable history of the book. I found this book to be an enormous help. Nicole Howard has done an excellent done of telling the story of the book—its origins, economics, labor history and technological development. Fantastic Book thoroughly recommend it. The copy ads are very interesting.. I have always loved the furniture, but this is not a how-to or design book. Readers no longer have to imagine how the textiles look- they have recently taken photos to show them. As a reader, I wish the book had been longer, but as a teacher it’s just right.
