Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892), the "Prince of Preachers," preached his first sermon at age sixteen. During his lifetime he preached to an estimated ten million people. He published over two thousand of his sermons, which compose the largest collection of work by a single author. Spurgeon founded and supported charitable outreaches, including educational institutions. He also founded a pastors' college and the famous Stockwell Orphanage.
Allow me to note that I am one of the authors of a chapter in this book. There was a technical stop in Shannon, Ireland and I deplaned briefly just to put my feet on Irish soil. Buy the book, lace up your shoes, and go be a badass mother runner. Still, I suppose in hindsight I can see what Walton was attempting to do with that relationship; it makes some sense, but I had hoped for more from it than what was given.
